It’s Been Snowing All Day

Posted by The Diatribe Guy on October 12, 2009

I’m a bit tied up with some things here, and probably won’t be putting up a post with an meaningful analysis for at least a couple days more. Last week I went up north to close up our camper, to find that the awning was torn off and flopped on to the roof. My fault for not rolling it up, but it’s never happened to us before, so that must have been one heckuva wind. Had some damage that needed repairing immediately to prevent water damage. Ugh.

I felt compelled to share that it’s freakin’ 25 degrees below normal temperatures today and has been snowing all day long. The temp is just over freezing, so despite what would normally have been 1-2 inches of snow accumulation, it’s just wet, mostly. But still…

Doc, I still stand by my prediction of a milder winter – at least a milder start to winter. But if we get many more days like this, then I shall accept my ridicule.

    Good Morning Joe,
Saturday was a “bit cold” here in Colorado. Denver set a new record low temperature records…see below extract from

“Friday night the cold front moved in and temperatures plummeted 23 degrees in five hours. Before midnight the mercury read 18 degrees thus shattering the old low temperature record for October 9th of 25 degrees. That record dated to 1970.

Saturday morning the low temperature at Denver International Airport dropped to 17 degrees. That set a new record low temperature for October 10th as well. The previous record low of 25 degrees was set more than a century ago in 1905.

A fourth record, for Sunday’s low temperature, was within reach but the mercury didn’t quite dip far enough. The record low for the date is 22 degrees, set in 1946. This morning the temperature at DIA dropped to 24 degrees which while chilly, didn’t quite go far enough.”

BTW, the official temperature record moved from Stapleton to DIA in the mid 1990’s, so there is likely some offset because of the change in location.

Today looks to be cold as well (the forecast says 51, the clouds are suggesting lower). One record the article didn’t mention was the record low high temperature set on October 10 at 26 degrees. The previous record was 34 degrees set in 2005.

I’m thinking of a cold and wet winter.

Sorry about the Snow Joe. Keep it up there would you? It’s been cold as heck in Illinois too. I don’t remember requesting summer be canceled. Check out the latest post at EM smiths blog CHIEFIO for an explanation (link on my latest post if you need it). You might find it interesting.

My mother in law always claims that we in Scotland get your US weather about a week later. Funny enough there seems to be something in this, because at least twice we’ve had snow around a couple of weeks after the US snow was on the news … so guess its time to get out the woolly hats and gloves!

On another note, I’m now $385.04 richer because of global warming!!!

Unfortunately, like manmade warmign its fake! Apparently I bet on When will “Manmade Global Climate Change” next be disputed by a major media source? And I correctly predicted 2008-2009

Explanation: “What happened to global warming? This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.
But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.”

For those who don’t know the BBC, it is a bit of a hotbed of environmentalism. So, it came as a bit of a shock – a bit like the pope suddenly deciding condoms are OK!

Another classic: What makes Met Office long-term forecasts so wrong? And the comments on the article are particular worth reading particularly this one:

In over forty years as a professional scientist I have never witnessed such abuse of the scientific methodology. I fear that harm will be done to all of science by the actions of “climate scientists” such as Mann, Jones, Briffa and other scientist who form what is known as “the Team”.

I’m secretly hoping your prediction is right. I could go with less winter’s like the last one. But with a weak El Nino and a mild summer, we’re looking at an overall colder Winter this time around.

    Where is Hadcrut3

Does anyone know why the Hadcrut3 figures for September are about 6days late? I always joke that late figures mean the figures are low, but I’ve never seen figures so late so who knows what this means?

Just had a look at GISS, and if the higher temperature there is anything to go by, the massive delay is clearly because this “scientific” body are clearly preparing a propoganda feast for the gullible media. All this is going to prove is that the scientists no longer have any say at Hadley and they are being run by accountants and ad people.

Mike, I haven’t heard anything at all on it.

Then again, those folks never really share any information about their process.

There may be a little something to what you say. It’s possible they had some figures ready that are much lower than GISS, and chose to review the data to make sure they are confident in its accuracy. I could see it happening, as HadCrut doesn’t always track perfectly with GISS.

As long as they don’t allow politics to sway the results, that’s probably a fine thing. But since they are so quiet about the process, we can never know.

Diatribe, there is certainly something very odd this month. It usually is the 20th +/-2 days, I can never in several years of getting the results, remember it being later than the 24th. To be as late as the 27th means that either they have decided to publish on a fixed date (thereby denying the public the data which is rightfully ours and further undermining any confidence I have in them), or it means they delaying the date for some specific reason which by their behaviour and comments I’m getting from insiders means its a big publicity event. OR there’s something terrible “wrong” with the data – meaning it is unusually low – or they’ve just discovered that all their sensors have been invaded by spiders which like to attract their mates by warming their bodies – or some other such massive flaw meaning they’ve got to change a lot of results.

So, there’s a fair chance there is going to be some fun shortly!

It’s been snowing for a lot of days. Are you giving up?

  10. Mike said

Personally I’m sick and tired of the half truths it now appears we have been told about the climate from the “scientists” at the Climate Research unit and I’m going to sign the petition at

#9 – No, I’m not giving up, but I must necessarily at times prioritize accordingly. This last month has been one of those stretches. It’s actually been somewhat frustrating to me because there have been a number of blog entries I want to make, and just have been unable to devote the necessary time to it.

Jeff, you are doing great work at The Air Vent, and I applaud you and your efforts. I personally know the sacrifice of time it takes to maintain that work and quality on a consistent basis, and there are times I’m simply unable to do it – or I should say, I’m unwilling to do it – at the expense of other things.

Perhaps I’ll make more of an effort to at least put some less thoguhtful and time-consuming posts up commenting on some things of interest, not so much to add much to the conversation, but just to let people know that I’m still here. It’s a valid point that simply doing nothing probably looks pretty bad.

In the emantime, keep up the good work on your side of things. Absolutely awesome stuff on the whole e-mail hacking thing.

Mike, I got your e-mail, and I still do plan on checking out the whole “Climate Mice” thing. Again, just doing other things at the moment.

You should check out what’s happening on the Australian political front. The opposition looks like it may have a leadership change over climate change.

    • The Diatribe Guy said

Saw that on the Drudge Report. 5 players making noise. Could be fun to watch.

      • Luke said

Tony Abbott has just won the vote to be opposition leader. He is anti- ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme). If the opposition votes as one, with no senators crossing the floor, then the Government’s ETS will not be passed. This may trigger a general election on the issue. Significant development.
