Today We Installed Our Wood Stove – Just in Time

Posted by The Diatribe Guy on December 7, 2009

As I type this, a pipe is being fit through the newly-created hole in our ceiling and roof. For some time, we’ve wanted to put a wood stove into our house to keep it a little warmer. We have an all-season porch off our living room area that is nearly all windows. Between the cost to put plastic up on those windows every year, the undesirable residual odor from so much plastic, and the fact that it is still cooler than we’d like out there – and then in our living area – we decided to take the plunge this year.

It’s just a small thing, meant to heat a few hundred feet. It’s not enough for the entire house, though in an emergency it could get us through.

And what do I see? This coming week’s forecast!

The coldest air of the season is expected to surge southward behind the storm. By midweek, the storm could bring temperatures 20 to 30 degrees below normal and and dangerous, life-threatening wind chills across the northern United States.

“High temperatures will struggle to make it out of the single digits,” Morris said.

Wonderful.

Oh, well. It’s not like I’ve never dealt with it before. But I never look forward to this.

Just good old fashioned “Packer” football weather Joe.

Good luck on the wood stove. I fitted one it must be seven or more years ago (back when I stilled believe in mann-made warming!) It can be a bit messy, and some hassle to get alight, but there is nothing like a real fire in the evening. And there’s nothing like being more green than the ranting lunatics who spout this green nonsense. 100% carbon neutral as it’s mostly local offcuts.

And the science is unequivocal that the smoke is helping to cool the planet – strange how the greens never mention that the 1970s clean air acts were largely responsible for the rapid rise in global temperatures, and if we wanted to cool the world (and would we really?) the simplest least costly, no, actually cost saving measure is to get rid of the clean air acts and fill the atmosphere with sun blocking particulates aka smoke!

As I was saying to some green activist this morning, if global warming were the “worst crisis facing mankind”, don’t they think a bit of pollution to bring down temperatures would be a perfect solution …. “oh oh, no! You can’t do that for anything, they said,” … at which I said: “so if you won’t put back the smoke to combat global warming it can’t exactly be ‘the worst crisis facing mankind'”.

    Good Morning Joe,

Already there for the weather. It’s been cold here for the last few days, and isn’t expected to reach freezing until maybe Friday. We’re looking at single digits or maybe up to 10 or 11 degrees today. I haven’t been following the Packers. How is Farve and the rest of the team doing? The Broncos are doing better than expected, but we’ll see how the season ends up. Expectatations were low at the beginning of the season, so it will be a successfull season almost regardless how it ends now.

Have fun with your stove. It should keep the room nice and toasty.

Well it’s finally happened. They appear to have found evidence that people have been adjusting the temperature data in a way that can’t be rationally explained in scientific terms. Whilst the analysis is only for a certain temperature series in Australia, there does appear to be clear evidence that the data was adjusted upward very significantly between the raw data available in the “hacked” data and that which was published. Here is a quote from the article:-

“Yikes again, double yikes! What on earth justifies that adjustment? How can they do that? We have five different records covering Darwin from 1941 on. They all agree almost exactly. Why adjust them at all? They’ve just added a huge artificial totally imaginary trend to the last half of the raw data! Now it looks like the IPCC diagram in Figure 1, all right … but a six degree per century trend? And in the shape of a regular stepped pyramid climbing to heaven? What’s up with that?

Those, dear friends, are the clumsy fingerprints of someone messing with the data Egyptian style … they are indisputable evidence that the “homogenized” data has been changed to fit someone’s preconceptions about whether the earth is warming.

One thing is clear from this. People who say that “Climategate was only about scientists behaving badly, but the data is OK” are wrong. At least one part of the data is bad, too. The Smoking Gun for that statement is at Darwin Zero.”

As a Brit, it really is a sad day to think this should have happened in the UK. Personally I blame the commercialisation of science by Thatcher, then the politicisation of science by Blair, and … lets be honest the stupid of those at the CRU! But still, we have to accept that history will remember that is was us Brits who caused the greatest scandal in modern scientific history – and my science degree is just worht a lot lot less today than it was yesterday!
